Scientific Name: Lamprologus signatus Size: Males 5cm, females 4cm Location: Lake Tanganyika Care: L. signatus is a carnivore. They will readily eat small pellets, brine shrimp and blood worms. As per all Tanganyikan cichlids, signatus required excellent water quality with minimal nitrates. pH of around 7.5-8.5 is optimum. Breeding: L. signatus is a shell dweller. Provide plenty of shells in clusters on the substrate. A breeding pair will move eggs/fry from one shell to the next. Notes: Signatus are dimorphic. Males are a pearl colour and display vertical tan barring throughout the body even at a young age. Females are pearl pearl in colour without the barring. Both will display a blue/purple sheen on their bodies. Signatus are mildly aggressive. However, during breeding/raising fry the pair will become more aggressive and defend their territory.
