Can anyone help? My 30cm+ tiger Oscar has been very bloated for a month now after eating two goldfish. His eaten them before and has been fine. His 2.5 years old still eats but rests alot and I hav'nt seen him poo in a while. I've tried turning the temp up, Epsom salt and even olive oil. I have read up and now know it wasn't a good idea to feed him goldfish.

try peas if he will take them or make up a frozen food with peas as the main ingredient.

yeah i feed peas to my severums and they do liquid poos lol looks like yellow smoke coming out their poo hole
i just put them in some hot water for 5 mins and then squeeze the peas out of their shells, otherwise they just chew and spit the shells out everywhere and make a mess

I'd keep up the epsom salt treatment mate. My o had the exact problem for a fortnite after eating a handful of 5m comets. If he comes good, the next step is no pet shop feeders, try breeding your own yabbies, mountain clouds, ghost shrimp ect feeders with a bit more nutrition.
What's its staple diet consist of??? I personally feed my oscar Hikari Gold pellets, then mealies and crix as a treat. Peas when he feels like it. Just try to emulate their natural diet.
Apart from that, keep your water schmick thru overkill filtration, weekly WC's and spot cleaning.

His diets varies on all types of pellets but also has frozen blood worms, peas and meal worms. his in a 4 foot tank with a large pleco and water is perfect just moved house so also gave the tank a complete clean.

Hmmmmm lets take a step back: What sized 4 ft tank, how wide & deep? What sort of filtration and water changes? Any difference in tap water pH from your last place to the new one? When you say complete clean??? you mean like 100% water change???

I'd probably step up the WC's to 40-50% weekly and start prepping for a bigger tank. I'd suggest adding natural sea salt and prime after water changes but i dont know how plecos go with salinity. Either way all the best mate

Added another dose of Epsom salt will do another water change on Wednesday. Put a jet flow filter in as well to keep the water and Oscar moving.

Oscars are american cichlids which prefer lower Ph levels so you could lower your Ph levels and see how he goes.

Oscars are american cichlids which prefer lower Ph levels so you could lower your Ph levels and see how he goes. i agree first things first get the ph down. try not to use other salts with plecs. epsom salts 1 table spoon per 40l remembering not to re dose on top of the previous dose. In other words dont repeat dose until you do some good water changes. what are your water perimeters and what i mean by this is Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. what filter/s are you using. i think this info can help a lot to sort out this problem.

To be honest i've never tested for nitrate or nitrite i've always just checked ph levels. A bit ignorant in my part i know. done some research and now know i need to go out and get the test kit. Shows i still have a bit to learn in my loved hobby.

Sweet as I think that's where the prob is at. Get the water tested but in the mean time do you use prime? Or equivalent?

Hey dude, sorry for your loss, but i reckon you should do a bit more research before committing to another large growing cichlid.

My mate had one for years. On the right diet and in a large tank the jag should be fine with my pleco. Plus by the time it grows it would be use to the 30cm+ pleco.
