Hiya guys,
I now have week old saulosi fry, still with the mother. the mum is being moved today, and I have another saulosi female who has be holding for 4+ weeks and she is looking pretty skinny-she is still in the main tank.
My question is, If i move the holding mum in with the other fry, will she attack the week old fry??? I'm not really keen on stripping be cause I dont really know how.
All help appreciated,
tim

Hi Guys, wow 4 weeks, the fry would be getting quite big...Mother must be getting very worn out, dropping condition size etc. Personally I would strip her, dependant on the size difference the fry can probably go in with the older batch. To strip, catch mother and put in an ice cream dish or similar with tank water, with wet hands cup the fish gently in the water, gently push her bottom lip /jaw open (I use a cotton bud) and slowly swirl the fish under water head slightly down etc Good luck and well done Cheers Craig

Strip x 2
I use a butter knife to hold the bottom lip open and swish head under water. If I am having trouble getting them out I then get my wife to get a syringe and flush water down behind her gills. Works a treat! Flushes the fry out every time.

Or you could get one of the hang on tanks I use and let her sit in that until she spits then put her back or the babies back in the tank. Small $30 large $40. I haven't stripped for over a year and they seem to work for me. I do go through a mouthful or two.

agree with you there steve as i have seen these at your place, i like them alot, but i can use them as my kids with pull them out when im not home,,,,
as for stripping i use a tooth pick, and strip my fry into a guppy saver, and i pust on the bottom of the mouth and that flushes them out, but the mail thing is ive been told and i do as well,DONT!!!!!! strip all the babys out of her mouth, leave atleast 1 or 2 in there, this helps her to keep on breeding in the future and not spit or swallow them after a short time,,
cheers neil

Thanks for all of the helpful info guys, I stripped her last night and was successful, getting about 13 fry. I think that is pretty decent for a 4cm fish.
