fry usually go for about $50 for 3-4 cm fry this particular variant. other red cap variants are around the $25-40 from what i have seen very hard to breed for a Malawi. the lethrinops species is notorious for it! males tend to beat the girls up quite a lot.

Not an allowable import either so that coupled with harder breederbility they will hold their price for quite some time to come.

the price will more then likely never come down, no body can breed them faster then the demand for them.
if you could get your hands on any lethrinops species and breed them successfully, it would be well worth your while.

My apologies for the poor picture, but this is a shot of my 2 males displaying to each other. I have a colony of 10 Red Cap lethrinops that I have grown up from 3cm fry.....they are are about 8 - 10cm now and my two males have been gradually colouring up more over the last month or two. I've had one mouthful that failed and I currently have a female that has a mouthful....I'd be surprised if the eggs are fertile given the young age of the fish. In the time I've kept them I've found them to be hardy, peaceful and fast growing...oh and easy to spawn so far....just gotta get some fry : ) They are probably in my top 3 of favourite fish in my fishroom at the moment, the males are very colourful and brilliant.....and the females are just silver with not much in the way of colour compared to the males. They like a sandy substrate, and while they were in their 4' growout tank kept the sand bed well turned over, with small 'divets' across the bed from where they had foraged for food. I've noticed the male will make a small (3' - 4') bower and entice the female to enter when spawning. An easy and rewarding fish to keep. : ) Attachments:
