they are a species of freshwater flee. i have them all through my canister filters. they are usually an indicator of really stable water parameters and mature bacteria colonies. they are completely harmless to your shrimp and fish. they do make good fry food as they are very high in protein.

I have them all through my 2217 as well. Fish love to eat them when I give it a clean.

Thought daphnia were the water flea wonder how they get there?

No idea how they get there. These are alot bigger then the daphina I have seen. They well could be mature adult daphina.
