Hi everyone just throwing the question out there What is the best media for a canister filter and how would u set it up eg. 1st 2nd 3rd 4th basket

I would go ceramic noodles, sponge, bio balls and wool.

you obviously like your SEACHEM products so why not throw matrix in with sponges and wool. some of the LFS sell it in bulk and can work out cheap that way so just ask. where are you located

not sure if they still have bulk matrix out the back but they will be able to tell you it was about half the price as the shelf stuff

matrix or coral rubble are the best for biological filtration. they have a massive surface area and due to the size of the pieces and the low water flow and low oxygen in the centre of each piece you can build a colony of anaerobic bacteria that consumes nitrates aswell as ammonia and nitrite. Bioballs are very inefficient when they are submerged. they however do perform ok when used in a wet and dry system. but with the advances in filtration technologies over the last 10 year i dear say the bioball is on its deathbed.
