Scientific Name: Thorichthys Meeki Common Name: Firemouth Cichlid Size: Around 6-7 inches, fish in photo is around 2.5 inches Location: Central America, Mexico, Guatemala Care: Replicate waters of Central America my fish is kept at around 7ph. Breeding: Males are generally more colourful than females, pictured fish is male. Males will also have and extended dorsal fin. Firemouths form mated pairs in which both parents tend to eggs laid in caves. Fry are fee swimming in about 4 days. Notes: Generally one of the more peaceful Americans, although mine rules the tank amongst the other Americans who he constantly chases and flaring is magnificent red gills, as with his gills the chases are usually all show and don’t lead too much. He is housed with several clown loach, ghost knife, synodontis featherfin & bristlenose who he does not bother at all. Photograph:
