The ever knowledgable Dave from Aquagreen ( www.aquagreen.com.au/catalog.html ) which is a highly popular online aquatic plant & livestock specialist and supplier, recommends a native version of the clean up crew. "You can try the Australian cleanup crew, apart from the siamese algae eaters from the LFS you can get Waterhouse Snail - eats blue-green algae Darwin Algae Eating Shrimp - eats filament and other algaes but not all algaes Flyspeck hardyheads eat soft green filament algae Darwin Burrowing snails clean and turn over substrate" NB: Dave (translated) also warns that Burrowing snails, like the Malaysian Trumpet Snail, are nigh impossible to get rid of once you have them in your tank.

This site is American, and it has available clean up crews according to the size of your tank that you will be able to use as a stocking guide. www.azgardens.com/c-18-the-original-algae-squad.aspxNerite snails arent available in Australia (they are popular because they dont breed in fresh water), and the golden algae eater is better known as a sucking catfish or Chinese Algae Eater. Also garra ping pingi isnt available in Oz, its purpose is simply as a scavenger to keep the bottom of the tank clean. Check species profiles for links to the Siamese Algae Eater and Otocinclus.
