Hi All, Im new to the whole planted tank thing and rushed into the LFS where I had some credit and walked out with 2 power glo tubes (purple ones) made for reef which I have since been told by a few people are crap for plants. Great advice from the LFS! I am after advice on where you can get decent globes ( 2 X 3ft fluros) to grow plants. In sydney today I found sera 10000's for $55. Comments or any good sites to look up people? I have looked around but find conflicting reports. Thanks, Aaron

I could be wrong, but i was under the impression that white light is suitable for plant growth, as well as just general lighting, blue tubes are good for showing fish colours, and pink (not purple) light is good for plant growth... This is the info on the Hagen website, who make the GLO brand lighting, and it does seem that the Power GLO tubes get a run in their recommendations for a planted tank... www.hagen.com/usa/aquatic/gloreminder/facts10.html

6500-10000's as previously discussed. Try Aquarium Life as it is purely plant related.

Kelvin rating and spectrum are two diff things. Unless i feel like writing a paper on the subject the easiest way to explain it is to buy 6500's in T5 to 10000K to grow plants, anything higher in T5 is only going to grow mosses.
