Hi Dean I had a lot of these at one stage.....I believe they are actually Telmatochromis sp. 'schachbrett' (see The Cichlids Room Companion) Once they start to breed.....you will have plenty....several generations of fry will grow to maturity with parents no drama Very nice fish and quite interesting.....males come in 4 different sizes dependent on breeding strategy pirate, territorial, satellite, and sneaker.....the smaller the male the bigger the gonads!!! I did have a link to a French site....but it's no longer live Goggle for more detail Ps brevis are going great....now have several pairs....very nice fish!

Looks like they are Telmatochromis sp. 'schachbrett', there seems to be quite a bit of confusion over the identity of some of these. They also resenble 'congo' and 'Moliro' but are possibly just collection points but same species. As far as i know these were first sold as vittatus here and are still being sold under that name.
Are the Brevis F2's better than the parents? Most fish i have kept only show their best colourations from F2, i think it has something to do with water and food controll and supplying perfect nutricion. I havent kept any and my pair have not spawned in a few months, they had a domestic and the male near killed the fem.
cheers
