Scientific Name: Cyprichromis leptosoma 'jumbo' LivuaCommon Name:Whatever you can shorten the scientific name too Location:
Southern half of lake tanganyika between M'vua Moliro. Care:Have been kept in high pH water 8.5-9.0 with buffered kH at 15-18 degrees or 268.5-322.2 ppm. Nitrates have been kept below 20ppm often about 5ppm. Feeding has been Spectrum Growth and Baby Brine Shrimp BBS. These fish really love the brine shrimp, brings out their colours and natural eating habits. It appears that lowering their water level and stopping tank circulation can entice males to breed. This was noticed when I stopped the circulation to do water changes. Cooler water changes also brings this about too. Breeding:Mouth brooder with a translucent mouth, which makes for easy viewing of fry to see how far developed they are. Notes:Keep them well fed on high protein food. There are two and possibly three different colour morphs of this fish. The first is the blue tails, the second is a yellow tail and the third I believe could be line bred to have a yellow with blue specks. Still working out how to distinguish yellow tail males and females though. Blue Tail MaleBlue Tail Female Yellow Tail Male?Juvenile Blue Tail MaleCheers, John
