Scientific Name:Ophthalmotilapia Ventralis GombeCommon Name:If only.... Location:Southern part of lake tanganyika at the very end of the lake. Between Katoto and Nzwema. Also close to Mpulungu. Care:Have been kept in high pH water 8.5-9.0 with buffered kH at 15-18 degrees or 268.5-322.2 ppm. Nitrates have been kept below 20ppm often about 5ppm. Feeding has been Spectrum Medium Fish Formula or Spectrum Thera A large pellets once a day. Breeding:Mouth brooder with a very translucent mouth, which makes for easy viewing of fry to see how far developed they are. Fry are extremely large and will have consumed most if not all of their egg sack at around 26 days. Males do not need lighting to breed and will spark more aggression if multiple males are in the tank. Even in a 6' X 18" X 18" the males will still have a go at each other. Frontosa's make good dithers for drawing some attention away (who would have thought). Notes:Keep watch of these to ensure males don't take out subdominant fish or become to aggressive with their females. As with most cichlids multiple females are ideal for reducing aggression. Cheers, John
