I had my green hair algea under control and after purchasing a new t5 light and cutting back the hours of light in the last 2 weeks it has taken over my plants. I had flurish fert only at the moment which might be helping it to grow. I also know flying foxes are great for getting rid of it but any of you guys know any other way to keep it under control. I think i first got it when i purchased a plant from a LFS ages aso and had it ever since then.

Cut your light hours to 2 x 4 hours of light with a 1 hour break between, plants start photosynthesis alot quicker than algaes so in the long term out compete them. Hydrogen peroxide H2O2 applied with a syringe to effected areas will help controll it, just dont use too much <0.1% total volume of aquarium at a time.
Excel would also help to balance the use of nutrients/light etc unless you are running co2 in other ways.
The adition of extra iron will also help nutrient uptake.
flourish dose as per bottle is for a well established high light co2 tank so try 1/4 dose for T5 or enough to get your nitrate level to 20ppm.
