nice fish. colouring up well. but i do not believe its a pseudotropheus acei "ngara" as the ngara collection point has a white tail. i think its more like a pseudotropheus acei "msuli" - blue with a yellow tail. i know photos can distort colour and the real appearance of the fish. google the two and see what your fish closer resemble.

I looked them both up, and he seems to resemble a ngara more than a msuli. I also have other black aceis with tails that are white at times, and then yellow-ish.
Possibly crossbred? But I doubt it because i got another batch from the same breeder later, and they have white tales.....

if it is a Msuli point it is not a true blood, none of mine have ever been that dark. i disagree Firthy, i think that it may indeed be a Ngara, as was mentioned it is a juvenille and i think that the whiteness of the cadual fin intensifies with age. Craig or Superman, can you please confirm this?

Were they from me? I know mine are ngara and can't be cross bred as the only others in the tank are White knights. I noticed the yellow tail too and thought it to be strange or just the lighting i know mine definitely have the white tails both parents and juvies. Does look like it is crossed with a yellow tail acei but definitely ngara head.

They were from craig, but his fish are great and are not crossbred.
I discovered yesterday that their tales only go yellow-ish when I approach the tanks. The one in the photo was the least dominant fish in his previous tank, and the other aceis get chased around quite alot, but the one in the photo even had his fins chewed so i moved him.
So, possibly, he and the others may change tail colours because they are afraid of being hassled or become scared.
But, like I said it is only when I approach the tank.
Craig has great quality fish and I doubt that it is crossbred. He keeps his breeding ngara in a separate tank to the msuli.

I have discovered that the acei are not ngara. They are the Pseudotropheus spec."Acei Tanzanian Black" varient, as told to me on ACE.

You do knoiw the craig on Ace is not the same bloke as here dont you? Quote from ACE 'You could have the tanzania varient' Unless Craig at Medowie, has the Acei Tanzanian Black, then you cant call them that. He will know what he sold you so ask instead of making un substantuated claims. You just cant "name" a fish because it looks sort of like one in a photo. You must do your research and find out the correct names otherwise someone with the real Acei Tanzanian Black may cross your 'unknown' collection point to theirs and bugger up their line completely. Been through something similar once this year so the thread is now locked
