Scientific Name: Geophagus brachybranchus Common Name: Black Throats, Altifrons #2 Size: 6 inches Location: South America: Corantijn and Nickerie River drainages in Suriname Care: Temp 24-26 DegC Neutral to slightly acid water. The use of tannins in the water greatly enhanses their colours. Breeding: Bi Parental. The eggs are laid on a flat stone and cared for till they hatch. The parents then take them into their mouths and share the care. They will spawn @ around 5 Inches and have around 300 fry per spawn. Fry are easily raised on micro worms BBS and powdered foods. Notes: I have found these to be extremely peaceful even at full adult size and kept them with tetras. This fish NEEDS a fine sand substrate as they sift all day long Male Female with Male in the back ground. Note the males head is more blunt and the belly is less rounded.
